New Strides at Edinburgh Fringe 2003 New Strides are pleased to announce that we are returning to the Fringe this year with two new pieces. TEA WITH MRS PANKHURST Come have tea with Mrs Pankhurst! This new play co-written by Ruth Urquhart and James Duncan looks at some of the inner conflicts experienced in the suffrage movement and focuses on Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst and Selina Cooper, two prominent suffrage leaders with very different methods of working. Promenade theatre in a café setting –tea and cake included in the ticket price! Venue 188, Calton Café Bar, Montgomery St, Edinburgh 3rd to the 24th Aug 2003, 5.30pm. Tickets £7 (£5 concs) available from the fringe office or at the venue. PURGE by James Duncan This new piece is set in Italy 1945 and is centred around the ministers visit to the Health Clinic. Will the figures add up? Will the corrupt officials be purged from the service? Never fear, Capitan Benita is here from the Epurazione to seek out the fascists…and righteousness can never be bought. Can it? No…! Not then. Not now. No, not never…Thank goodness nothing like this happens in modern day Britain. Venue 188, Calton Café Bar, Montgomery St, Edinburgh, 3rd to the 24th August 2003, 7.30pm. Tickets £7 (concs £5) available from the fringe office or at the venue. ELIANA TOMKINS– Sweet Jazz After being thrilled and delighted with our plays, sit back and enjoy the smooth tones of jazz singer Eliana Tompkins together with her trio of musicans. Her repertoire ranges from Gershwin to Brubeck. “… She tells the stories with a gentle intimacy…” (Jazz FM.) Venue 188, Calton Café Bar, Montgomery St, Edinburgh – 3rd –24th August (please check fringe programme for nights not performing) Tickets £7 ( £5 concs) available from fringe office and at venue And that’s not all… The Calton Centre is run as a community café and centre during the day and this year throughout the Fringe, as well as on-the-edge political theatre we are running a music and café venue in the evenings (from 5pm until midnight). The venue is non-smoking and will serve good quality food and alcohol. The idea came from the fact that people get very weary of trudging around different shows and restaurants, so here’s a venue where you can have it all and rest your weary fringe feet! Watch one play for £7 Watch two plays for £12 Watch both plays and jazz for £15! For information on the Fringe festival, visit www.edfringe.com |
